A Deer A Horse
The Sydney
Omaha, Nebraska
Grind Tour
May 5th, 2022
If there’s one thing I learned from the past few years its to step outside of your comfort zone. Go to a bar that you’ve not been to for years. Have fun. Enjoy life. Stay up late on a work night and go see a band that you’ve never seen live before.
Tonight I did all those things. It was only recently that I heard of A Deer A Horse, and this would be (to my knowledge) the band’s first time playing Omaha in several years. A Deer A Horse are not your typical punk band. They’ve been touring the underground circuit, mostly the east coast, since 2017. Their unique style conjoins rock, metal, and punk in an unholy amalgamation. Its ok if you’ve never heard of the band before. They’ve been around for a few years but have stayed under most people’s radar. Hopefully that will change with The Grind Tour.
I never got the chance to attend those old school basement punk shows, but I imagine seeing A Deer A Horse’s show tonight is the closest I’ll get to that experience. The sweat, and raw energy. The erratic crowd thrashing around. The chaos that crashed against the walls of The Sydney like waves crashing onto the shore. The band’s 7 song set wasn’t nearly long enough, but it was more than enough time for them to earn the crowd’s favor. Even in a smaller venue, their energy was off the chart. It didn’t matter that they were a few dozen people to witness the show, they played like there were a few thousand.
