Magic: The Gathering Featured in New Fantasy-Themed Exhibit at Seattle EMP Museum

Wizards of the Coast today announced that its popular Magic: The Gathering franchise will be part of a new fantasy exhibit debuting at Seattle’s EMP Museum next weekend. The exhibit will display several key pieces from Magic’s archive of incredible world-building imagery alongside artifacts from high-profile pop culture and fantasy phenomenons including Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Game of Thrones and more. The Fantasy: Worlds of Myth and Magic exhibit opens to the public on April 27, 2013 with a special opening celebration – QUEST: Fantasy Exhibit Opening Adventure on April 26th.

During the exhibit, museum goers and fantasy fans alike will get a first-hand look at some of the unique elements and rich illustrations that have made Magic: The Gathering a leading entertainment property. From original alpha and beta cards to key art from some of Magic’s top fantasy artists and designers, fans will find themselves completely immersed in a world of fantasy and imagination.

Organized by the EMP Museum, Fantasy: Worlds of Myth and Magic is the first exhibition of its kind to examine the proliferation of the fantasy genre in literature, film, television, and video games. From classic folklore to epic tales of good and evil, the exhibition content spans more than four centuries and includes an authentic 16th century suit of armor, rare costumes from the 1939 film The Wizard of Oz, and original hand-edited manuscript pages from J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.  Contemporary works are also featured with artifacts from Xena: Warrior Princess, Game of Thrones, and the Harry Potter series.
