Shiny Toy Guns; III

Shiny Toy Guns
III
October 23rd, 2012

With the release of the band’s third full length album, Shiny Toy Guns once again find a place in the hearts and souls of their followers. While the band’s sophomore release, co-fronted by Sisley Treasure, was more focused on the heavier, industrial sound, the return of Carah Faye Charnow heralds a return to the style of electronic/industrial/dance music that first earned the band a Grammy Nomination.
I’m not saying that I didn’t enjoy “Season of Poison”, I most certainly did, it was just different from the band’s “We Are Pilots” release and most fans didn’t embrace their new musical direction. With the return of Charnow as female vocalist, Chad Petree, Jeremy Dawson and Mikey Martin are once again creating the familiar muse that we first fell in love with all those years ago.
Charnow’s soft vocals blend perfectly with Petree’s on tracks like “Carrie” and “Waiting 4 Me” and create a dazzling sonic landscape while Dawson and Martin take us by the hand and lead us on a journey through III’s multi-layered tracks. But Petree and Charnow also continue to prove their unique vocals are also strong enough to stand on their own. “If I Lost You” is the crown jewel that is III, and Charnow once again sparks a sense of loss and yearning that was missed on the band’s sophomore release.
Welcome back Carah Faye! It’s been a long time coming.
