NEW SMASHING PUMPKINS SINGLE “PANOPTICON” FROM CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED ALBUM ‘OCEANIA’ ARRIVES AT RADIO
BAND TO BE JOINED ON UPCOMING U.S. ARENA TOUR BY ANBERLIN OCTOBER 10-20 AND MORNING PARADE OCTOBER 23-NOVEMBER 4
As THE SMASHING PUMPKINS prepare for their U.S. fall arena tour launching October 10 at the Comcast Arena in Everett, WA, their new single “Panopticon” has just arrived at radio. This standout track from their acclaimed album OCEANIA caught the attention of critics upon the album’s release (see below) and the band’s singer/guitarist BILLY CORGAN talked about the song’s origins with Music Radar: http://beta.musicradar.com/news/guitars/interview-billy-corgan-talks-the-smashing-pumpkins-oceania-track-by-track-548578/3
“Billy Corgan’s latest opus is full of wildly catchy, over-the-top prog jams. Our favorite? This [‘Panopticon’] Gish-y gem, featuring skyscraper-size riffs and wounded angel vocals from Corgan. Crank it up…” – Rollingstone.com, 6/22/12
“…‘Panopticon,’ another of the album’s more aggressive, and impressive songs. On that song, Corgan brings the guitar-driven gloom and doom, that relents before he revels, ‘There’s a sun that shines in / There’s a world that stares out at me /And all I refuse to please.’” – Tree Riddle, Loudwire.com 6/19/12
“…‘Panopticon’ marches forth on another towering riff and [Mike] Byrne’s flawless percussive propulsion. ‘Love is here,’ Corgan announces as the distortion subsides on a divine refrain. The frontman paints a picture of reminiscence that’s equally spacey and stunning, especially as the clean tones of his guitar rise in rapturous form.” – Rick Florino, Artistdirect.com 6/13/12
