Evanescence’s performance at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison on February 21, 2004, the third stop on the first leg of the World Domination Tour, felt like something special from the very beginning. Even a looming blizzard couldn’t keep us away, turning the trip into part of the adventure and making the show that much more rewarding once we arrived. For my younger sister, this was her first concert, and it couldn’t have been a more memorable introduction to live music.
When Evanescence took the stage after Default, and Atomship, Amy Lee’s powerful vocals and commanding presence immediately filled the arena, creating an atmosphere that was both intense and captivating. The band delivered a tight and emotionally charged set that resonated with the crowd from start to finish. A standout moment of the night was their cover of Soundgarden’s “4th of July,” which added a gothic, grittier edge to the song and showcased the band’s range and influences. It was an unexpected highlight that helped set this show apart from others on the tour.
Despite the winter storm outside, the energy inside the venue was warm, electric, and unforgettable. Sharing the experience, especially as my sister’s first concert, made the night even more meaningful, turning it into a lasting memory tied not just to the music, but to the journey it took to get there.
