Not even the afternoon’s torrential downpour, hail storm, and tornado warnings could keep fans from packing into The Waiting Room for an immersive night of music and community. Organized by KIWR 89.7 The River, their second Local Bites Live concert was another reminder of the dynamic music from local bands in Omaha, and Lincoln, showcasing the vibrant rock and alternative music styles. Hosted again at The Waiting Room, the venue has been an exciting staple of Omaha’s for nearly two decades, and has introduced fans to bands varying from Arson City, The Faint, and Cursive, to national touring acts like K Flay, Grandson, and Hellyeah, and international acts like KMFDM, The Hu, Lacuna Coil, and Nova Twins.
The second iteration of Local Bites Live featured Light Speed Highway, As Tides Rise, After Arizona, and LGHTBRNGR. The Waiting Room’s state-of-the-art lighting, and upgraded sound system enhanced the experience and allowed each band’s unique sound to resonate with clarity.

The evening began with Light Speed Highway, and yes, light speed is two words. The band’s heavy riffs, and commanding stage presence immediately energized the crowd.

As Tides Rise maintained the momentum with their blend of metalcore, melodic hooks, and powerful breakdowns. The band engaged the crowd’s engagement throughout their entire performance.

After Arizona followed, delivering an emotionally charged set that showcased their lyrical depth, and musical versatility.

LGHTBRNGR closed the night out with an electrifying performance, opening their set with a punk goes pop cover of Justin Bieber’s Ghost. LGHTBRNGR captivated the audience with a high-energy set, combining technical proficiency with infectious enthusiasm.

Tonight’s show was a testament to Omaha’s thriving local music scene, offering an unforgettable night of live music in one of the city’s premier venues. Having had so many artists not return after The Pandemic, I had thought Omaha’s scene had gotten a bit stale over the past few years. Little did I know that so many new artists were using that time to hone their skills, and reintroduce themselves to us.
For me, it was LGHTBRNGR’s unexpected introduction last year that injected a new level of energy and excitement back into local music. Local Bites Live was also a reminder to support your local musicians, no matter where you are. You never know when that local band is going to graduate to opening for your favorite national acts, or headlining arenas across the world.
