Its so rare to find a band that continues to no only push the boundaries of their genres but continues to evolve throughout their career and gets better with each subsequent album they release.
The Birthday Massacre were amongst numerous bands that were forced to cancel or postpone their 2020 and 2021 tours during the Pandemic. They didn’t waste their time off though. The band bubbled up, wrote and recorded a new album, and scheduled a tour. But don’t call it a come-back. The Birthday Massacre’s landmark album. “Walking With Strangers”. has been called the “Sgt. Peppers of Dark Wave”. Fascination, their 12th release, is their most intimate offering to date. The band finally hit the road in February of 2022 in support of their Fascination release. The second leg of the tour found the band joined by Dead Posey, and Korine.
Opening the evening, Korine’s dark style of indie rock set the tone for the night and bled into the Dead Posey’s unique style of authentic rock music. As amazing as the opening bands were though, it was the anticipation of The Birthday Massacre that had the crowd seething.
The Fascination tour wasn’t just to focus on music from Fascination. The band was forced to cancel their tour in support of 2020’s Diamonds’ album and this tour gave the fans a chance to hear tracks from each of their latest releases.
All the lessons of the past two decades have culminated into an incredible live show that featured fan favorite cuts from the band’s early days mixed into blistering offerings from their most recent albums. Their phenomenal 20 song set marked the band’s first return to Omaha since 2011, and they did not disappoint several hundred rabid fans that packed themselves into Slowdown. Their signature blend of haunting vocals coupled with aggressive guitars and ethereal electronica captivated and dominated their fans for nearly an hour and a half.
Don’t sleep on this band. They deserve the attention. Even though the tour is almost over, don’t miss the chance to see The Birthday Massacre live. Their presence on stage is unmatched.
