The Waiting Room was the place to be on August 31st as fans of quirky, theatrical rock gathered for an unforgettable night with Mac Sabbath and Spaceman Bob. The venue, known for its intimate setting and excellent acoustics, provided the perfect backdrop for an evening that was as much about spectacle as it was about music.

Opening the night was cosmic rockstar Spaceman Bob. While this was Spaceman Bob’s first time in Omaha, this wasn’t for founding member Robbie Pfeffer.

Pfeffer is an Omaha favorite, previously touring with nerd-punk band Playboy Manbaby.  Known for his tongue-in-cheek punk rock, Pfeffer’s cosmic-themed rock blends classic rock vibes with a futuristic twist. His performance delivered a flair that matched his space-age persona. Dressed in a polka dot astronaut suit, Spaceman Bob captivated the audience with his energetic stage presence and catchy riffs. Spaceman Bob’s set was a great warm-up, leaving the crowd buzzing with anticipation for the main act.

As the lights dimmed and the sounds of a distorted fast-food jingle filled the room, Mac Sabbath took the stage to a roar of applause. The self-proclaimed “drive-thru metal” band, famous for their Black Sabbath parodies with a fast-food twist, did not disappoint. The band members, twisted versions of McDonald’s characters, brought their unique brand of humor and heavy metal to life in a way that only they can. In the past ten years, Mac Sabbath has differentiated themselves from the likes of Dokken Donuts, and Marilyn Manwhich.

Ronald Osbourne, the band’s frontman, was a whirlwind of manic energy, delivering hilarious yet impressively accurate renditions of Sabbath classics like “Frying Pan” (a take on “Iron Man”) and “Sweet Beef” (their version of “Sweet Leaf”). The band’s musicianship was on point, with Slayer MacCheeze shredding on guitar and Grimalice laying down some heavy basslines. Theatrics have always been a big part of a Mac Sabbath show. Props like an oversized straw, inflatable chicken, a barf bucket, and a smoke-spewing grill added to the absurdity and fun.

The crowd was fully engaged throughout the performance, moshing, laughing, and even chanting along to the absurd lyrics. The encore, featuring a twisted take on Ozzy’s Crazy Trai,” was a perfect way to close the night, with everyone in the venue united in a bizarre but joyous celebration of fast food and metal.

Mac Sabbath and Spaceman Bob delivered an incredible night of entertainment that was equal parts ridiculous and brilliant. The Waiting Room proved once again why it’s one of Omaha’s best spots for live music, providing an environment where bands can connect with their audience in a way that’s both personal and powerful. If you ever get the chance to see either of these acts, don’t hesitate—you’re in for a treat that’s as fun as it is unforgettable.
