MYSPACE PREMIERES VIDEO FOR “BEDSIDE MANOR” FROM ACTIVATOR
“Bedside Manor” Is the Latest Single off the Band’s Self-titled Full-length Debut, Which Was Released on September 17, 2013
“Their self-titled debut album was just released a couple of days ago and features all the stuff ’80s and ’90s Lower East Side dreams were made of, all lovingly caressed by a modern thrashing edge.”
Decibel Magazine
“‘Bedside Manor’ and ‘Left Unsaid’ stand out on the record as two of the most memorable songs, incorporating powerful rhythms and ever-changing riffs to add to their already intense, energetic vibe.”The Aquarian
Activator (Shannon T. Moore, Jared Drace, Willie Paredes, Sunny Leejean) has partnered up with Myspace to premiere the video for their latest single, “Bedside Manor.” The track is off the bands critically acclaimed self-titled debut full-length album which was released on September 17, 2013.  Of the song, guitarist Jared Drace said, “Musically, the main riff was my take on a cannibal-corpse style riff.  The chorus has a more epic-Viking kind of feel.”  Lead singer Shannon T. Moore added, “‘Bedside Manor’ is the first song Jared and I didn’t work on together.  When I heard it, the victory-metal aspect of it was really strong and I had to find a way to counter it to avoid going to the obvious, which is trying to match the melody.” He goes on, “The meaning of the song is open to interpretation.  When I was writing the lyrics, the one thing that kept coming back to me was how most people never really take into account how many experiences – both good and bad – it takes to make a person who they are and who they are becoming.  It’s really easy to be dismissive about the flaws you can find in a person without really thinking about how those flaws got there.  I was pretty happy with the outcome.”  The video was directed by Salvatore Botti and was shot during a show at Hank’s Saloon in Brooklyn this past August.  Botti also included some subway footage and sounds as a nod to the band’s cover art which was designed by Version Industries, who have worked with such names as Daft Punk and Louis C.K.
Activator is the band’s first set of new music since the release of their debut EP.  The band recorded the album at Night Owl Studios and worked with Jim Williams (Maximum Penalty/Nausea) on vocal production, with mixing done by Matt Snedecor (Rush, Dresden Dolls). Revolver Magazine kicked off the release of Activator by premiering the band’s first single, “Sexy for Breakfast.”  Additional reviews and coverage came pouring in and the album was even featured as a “New & Noteworthy” album on iTunes week of release.  Radio showed the band some love and the album debuted at #12 on the Loud Rock Chart with adds coming in across the country.
Activator formed in 2006 when Moore and Drace met at the Lower East Side bar, Max Fish.  The two connected over their mutual love of NY’s metal and punk scene and soon joined forces with bassist Willie Paredes and drummer Sunny Leejean.  The band signed with Def Jux, but their debut EP was shelved when the label shuttered their doors shortly after the signing.  The quartet continued to perform around the country and shared the stage with the likes of Bad Brains and Murphy’s Law.  The last few years saw Moore touring in the hip-hop world with El-P.  On stage as hype man, Moore spent two years on the road with El-P in support of his solo album and was most recently sharing the stage with El-P and Killer Mike for their collaboration effort, Run the Jewels.  While most would see a huge difference between the two worlds, Moore explains in a recent interview with Live High Five that the worlds are more alike than many realize. “They kind of come from the same place.  They’re both street themed music.”  He adds, “The crowd is the same.  It looks like a hardcore show.  Same sh*t that you’d find at any other show.  Mosh pits and everything.”
“Activator is the album Activator fans have been waiting for since they dropped their EP
all those years ago on Def Jux.”
