And Tours With Bonnie Raitt In October

Today AmericanSongwriter.com premieres “Me After You,” the new video from Maia Sharp. Lensed at the Silent Movie Theatre in Los Angeles, “Me After You” features Maia as the theatre’s accompanist and was directed by The Rescues’ AG, who co-wrote the song with Sharp. A montage of silent film heroines in emotional turmoil unfolds on the big screen  as Maia’s vocals poignantly capture the regret that comes from realizing she can never regain the lover she mistakenly left and who, to add insult to injury, appears to be doing much better than she is. Fans can check out the video at:

“Me After You” is the first single from Sharp’s latest album, Change The Ending (Blix Street/Crooked Crown Records), which pays tribute to the cinema in its title track and artwork. The single is already in the top 40 at the Triple A radio format, garnering play on SiriusXM’s The Loft, KFOG – San Francisco, KCSN – Los Angeles, KINK – Portland, OR, WYEP – Pittsburgh, KPRI – San Diego, WXRV – Boston and numerous other stations.

Sharp will kick off a special tour with fellow singer-songwriters AG and Garrison Starr this Wednesday, September 19th, at Rams Head Tavern in Annapolis,  MD. It will feature the supergroup of singer-songwriters taking turns like writers-in-the-round and backing one another throughout the evening with the assistance of guitarist Linda Taylor. For further details, visit http://www.ag-maia-gstarr.com/. After the limited run, Sharp will open for Bonnie Raitt on a series of dates that includes a show at Nashville’s legendary Ryman Auditorium (10/28). See below for itinerary. Raittperforms on Change The Ending and Maia can be heard on the nine-time GRAMMY® winner’s new album, Slipstream.

“Bonnie Raitt often covers Sharp’s songs, and no wonder. She writes melodies wide enough to let singers show their range, with lyrics that cut to the bone. Here Sharp proves she has the goods to do all that on her own,” said the New York Daily News. USA Today awarded Change The Ending three out of four stars, praising Sharp’s “clear, aching voice and tough-tender reflections on love” while The Advocate noted: “A prolific songwriter, she’s written music for some of the industry’s best, including Cher, Bonnie Raitt, The Dixie Chicks, and Art Garfunkel. But she’s a star in her own right, too.”

Sharp recently produced Edwin McCain’s latest album, Mercy Bound, as well as two songs for Art Garfunkel’s upcoming double album, The Singer. Garfunkel, who collaborated with Sharp and Buddy Mondlock on 2002’s Everything Waits to Be Noticed, had high praise for Maia when he recently spoke with Rolling Stone:

Change The Ending follows Sharp’s 2009 album, Echo, which contained the Top 10 Triple A radio hit “John Q. Lonely” and “Death By Perfection,” which was tapped by NPR as “Song of the Day.”
