TOOL, The Acid Helps

Its hard to believe that the last time I saw TOOL was in 2002 on the Inside the Outside tour with Tomahawk. A lot has changed in those 20 years, yet TOOL has only intensified.
The 38 date trek introduced a lot of us to The Acid Helps. The Los Angeles-based alternative rock band with hints of metal and psychedelic rock. Tim Dawson (Guitar and Vocals) is also known for his guitar work with The Birth Defects and Legend Of The Seagullmen, featuring members of TOOL, Mastodon, Primus, Metalocalypse: Dethklok, and Giraffe Tongue Orchestra. The band did a fantastic job keeping the crowd’s attention, setting the tone, and hyping the mood for what would be a phenomenal night of live music.
I finally get it. I finally understand why TOOL fans are so rabid for their favorite band. All bets were off once TOOL took the stage. For almost an hour and a half it felt like we were living in a TOOL video. The band’s 12 song set spanned cuts from their 30 year career coupled with some of the most intense visuals ever produced for a concert. I’ve never done acid or tripped on shrooms but I can now imagine what that must feel like.
I’ve been to a lot of concerts, almost more than I can remember. The music. The visuals. The light show. Each timed perfectly with every song played. Seeing TOOL live is an unforgettable experience. Seeing TOOL live is a life changing experience.
