“I challenge you to all out life!”
Disco ball skulls. Pantyhose. A prison bus. Those sneaky bastards! Iowa’s Lords of Metal have released their first new song in four long years. No teasers. No press release. No build up of anticipation. No spoilers. Just BOOM, here the fuck it is!
“All Out Life” is the band’s treat for all the Maggots celebrating Halloween. The video, directed by M. Shawn “Cl6wn” Crahan, may be lacking any of the band’s members, but it more than makes up for that with the blood and pyrotechnics, thrashing guitars and bombastic drums.
As you may remember, the band put out the call for extras a few months back in the Los Angeles area but didn’t say exactly what the extras were filming for.
In a recent interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music’s Beats 1, vocalist Corey Taylor said, “The album is underway, and it’s going to be one of the darkest chapters in Slipknot’s history; it’s that good.”
He then elaborated on the concept of the as-yet-untitled release with, “It’s complicated; it’s dark; it’s heavy; it’s melodic; it’s fierce; it’s angry and it’s real; it’s raw as hell and it’s gonna be talking about a lot of things that people are going to need in their life right now.”
Taylor stated that, ““All Out Life” is a song that is trying to do 2 things: bring everyone together, but also remind everyone that the past is not something to be discarded with disdain. People are so eager to find the Next Big Thing sometimes that they shit all over the bands and artists that have come before, thus making the past feel disposable, like a dirty thing. Fuck that: Why should we pay attention to your mediocre future when you can’t be bothered to celebrate an amazing past? I’d rather listen to a guaranteed hit than a forced miss. “All Out Life” is the anthem that reminds people that it’s not the date on the music—it’s the staying power.”
Crahan further explained, “Right now is a very exciting time for Slipknot. We’ve been working on new music for the last two years, and “All Out Life,” the song and the video, is just one of many concepts in the works. It’s a fitting taste to get you to the next thing. Get ready for what’s to come. We challenge you to “All Out Life.”
“Come one, come all. We challenge you to All Out Life. You know we have always played for blood as well as you, our fans, have. So welcome to the beginning of a story that starts with the maggots themselves. As it should be. At this point we are a culture and a strong one at that. Things are rising once again and as always it begins and ends with you. Wake up and decide to give all you are to us and in return we will deliver a message that has always been the same which is, we the band give everything we are to our fans. You want my blood, Sweat and tears, well then you will get it. I’m not one for giving a million explanations. It’s art, so enjoy this first imagery that is the beginning window into what is to come.
