New music from TOOL? Eventually.

Vocalist and vintner Maynard James Keenan confirmed via Twitter this past weekend that the wheels are firmly in motion for TOOL’s upcoming release.

“Started getting music files from the boys w the word FINAL in the title a few months ago after 11 years of begging. That in theory means the tracks won’t change out from under me while I’m trying to write stories and melodies to them. In theory. Still waiting for the FINAL on 1, but way ahead. Words & Melodies 100% DONE on all but 1. Someday we’ll track them. Long way from the finish line, but at least we’re closer. Meanwhile new @aperfectcircle release on 4/20.”

Is Maynard blaming drummer Danny Carey, guitarist Adam Jones, and bassist Justin Chancellor for the album’s delay? Or is there a bit of snark in his tweet? We’re coming up on the 12 year mark since the release of “10,000 Days”, so what’s another year? Right? The band sending Keenan finalized music tracks is a big deal, especially is they really are finalized. This puts a lot of pressure on Keenan to get the lyrics completed and vocal tracks laid down.
While we may not see new TOOL in 2018, we thankfully have A Perfect Circle’s 4th full length release slated for an April release.

Both bands will be touring the World’s Loudest Month festival circuit; A Perfect Circle in support of their highly anticipated “Eat the Elephant” release, and TOOL, well, because they’re TOOL.
A Perfect Circle’s live set will definitely see tracks from “Eat the Elephant” mixed in. No word on whether or not TOOL will be performing any new material this spring.
