This Week at 1% Productions/Omaha Metro Area

Tonight, Vampire Weekend‘s Chris Baio takes over the stage at Reverb Lounge with Lowercase TresBaio is a solo DJ project, with both instrumental dance tracks and indietronica numbers featuring his eclectic singing style. While some subtle elements in Baio’s work can be traced back to his involvement as Vampire Weekend’s bassist, he has done well in differentiating himself as an independent artist. Even though his high baritone vocals are velvety and new wave, the synth arrangements exude strength and wash it back down to earth. Back at The Waiting Room, UK’s number one star in the blues rock world Joanne Shaw Taylor takes over the stage with local dudes Hector Anchondo Band opening up the show.

Old school hip hop legends EPMD are at The Waiting Room tomorrow night with their Strictly Business 30 Year Anniversary Tour, joined by with Third Eye Merchants and DJ Houston Alexander. Over at Reverb Lounge, Rob Nance and the Lost Souls take over the music room with songs that echo the traditions of southern and contemporary folk music to create a unique brand of roots rock that pushes the boundaries of traditional songwriter music.

On Thursday, Deerhoof returns to The Waiting Room! By turns cuddly and chaotic, San Francisco’s Deerhoof mix noise, sugary melodies, and an experimental spirit into sweetly challenging and utterly distinctive music that made them one of the most acclaimed acts of the last twenty years.

One of our favorite Americana singer-songwriters, Texas troubadour Hayes Carll returns to The Waiting Room on Friday night with Luke Bell and John Evans. Don’t miss this drunken poet’s blend of storied folk and honky tonk twang! Soulful dream-rocker Esmé Patterson returns to Reverb Lounge around the corner with The Awful Truth.

Delreece is bringing his Mic Check Showcase back to Reverb Lounge on Saturday, this time featuring D. Jones, Lite Pole, Eric King, Team Unexpected (NZ Tante & Fro Frizzle), and Delreece himself. Back at The Waiting Room, Omaha’s favorite eccentric hip hop duo BOTH are back with K’Sean, Absolut-P, and Kethro. In an age of gimmicks BOTH only give authentic love and passion creating a brilliance in their dynamic style in music. It’s not just beats and rhymes, but soulful kicks, drums, deep bass, and conscious flow.

We’re pleased to host the BluesEd Season Finale on Sunday afternoon at The Waiting Room. BluesEd is celebrating its 15th anniversary in 2016 as a non-profit youth development program sponsored by the Blues Society of Omaha. Founded in 2001, BluesED aims to promote the Blues Society of Omaha’s mission of “Keeping the Blues Alive.” Students audition in the winter and after acceptance into the program, participate in a series of workshops concentrated on blues music and then perform at festivals and venues in the Omaha area. Sunday’s event is the culmination and presentation of their hard work!

Finally, it’s Music Quiz on Monday at The Waiting Room. Done in traditional pub quiz format, teams of four or less will compete for prizes and bragging rights. Moderators will throw out forty questions in five categories which include audio, video, and visual questions. If you have been bragging for years that you know all there is to know about music, here is your chance to prove it!
