Social Distortion
As we drove up to The Lakewood Theater in Dallas on November 07-2006, it was amazing to see the old theater with the huge neon marquee sign. That nostalgic sign heralded our arrival blocks before we ever even arrived at the venue promising a great show.
The opening act was The Chelsea Smiles which carried on the old school feel of the venue with the sounds which reminded us of The Ramones. With killer guitar solos and catchy lyrics The Chelsea Smiles had me singing along to songs I had only just heard and it was a good kick off to the night. The next band that graced the stage was Blackpool Lights which started getting the crowd in the mood for Social Distortion with similar sounds with their own twist.
The venue started getting packed as the moment grew nearer for the appearance of the band that everyone had come to see – Social Distortion.
The lights dropped low as the house music stopped and with true rock star fashion Mike Ness (vocals) entered the stage carrying an arm full of long-stemmed roses and tossed them out among the crowd and the first strains of Reach for the Sky from Sex, Love and Rock n’ Roll began to play. The crowd was pumped and pushing forward just for a glimpse or try as they might to touch these icons of rock. They treated us to new and old favorites and put on a great performance. They rock just as hard now as they did in the 80’s and I would definitely recommend this show to anyone.
