January the 10th brings a truly once-in-a-lifetime show to the Midwest as the 6 Rounds of Punk invades the Mid-America Center in Council Bluffs, Iowa. In preparation, I got a chance to talk with Rob and the boys from Total Chaos. Thank you for taking the time to do this quick interview with me today. From taking on this job, I have had the chance to interview some true punk rock legends and this interview is another band for that list.
LE: Since 1989, Total Chaos has been rocking the faces off of kids throughout the world. 25 years later, you are still hitting the road and playing some amazing shows. Has much changed on the way you guys approach touring or playing shows in general?
TC: Not much, just older and wiser, we try our best for all the young punks.
LE: Does running SOS records help you in the process of booking shows, are you guys still DIYing it?
TC: SOS RECORDS WAS a label ran BY rob CHAOS FOR / YEARS; but as of the last 6 years the label closed down, due to people not buying records, Total Chaos is all DIY on everything
LE: Council Bluffs, IA isn’t a normal place to bring such an amazing show like the 6 Rounds of Punk tour. Was it a choice the bands made to put it here, to bring punk to a smaller market?
TC: Really, not sure, we play Omaha, NB a lot and have a lot of friends there, as for the festival, we were only asked to take part in it! I hope it rocks!!!
LE: Looks like you guys are doing a mini overseas tour over the last part of December. Are you happy to be coming back to the States to do a show or do the overseas shows still excite you guys?
TC: (rob Chaos) I live in Germany, so for me I’m home, but the rest of the band still lives in Los-Angeles, but if you ask me (GERMANY KICKS ASS!!!!)
LE: You have been a band for 25 years now, do you want to share any stories from the road that you really enjoyed? Or moments that you hated and would telling inspiring bands not to do?
TC: Really there so many I could write 10 books on, we’ve had a crazy time on the road, all over the world, no one could ever know, unless you do it yourself. All I can say is to live life, just do it!!!!! you will see the up’s and down’s but mostly you would have lived a full life!!
LE: Do you have any advice for the kids of America who have a dream of starting a real punk band?
TC: Do what you want and never listen to no one, run with your heart, and you will find your own way! I promise that!!!!!
LE: Last question for you. Thank you so much for taking the time to answer these questions while you are getting ready to hit the road..
TC: No problem!
LE: When you step offstage on Jan 10th at the Mid-America Center in Council Bluffs, IA, how do you want people to feel about what they’ve just seen?
TC: Feel as they want, we’re not a pop punk band, we’re total street punk, I want them to know what that is
