The Walking Dead Spin Off Casting News (Updated)

The as-yet-untitled spin off for AMC’s The Walking Dead has cast its first two survivors with British actor Frank Dillane (who played Tom Riddle in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince) and Alycia Debnam Carey (Into the Storm). Both have officially signed onto the latest highly anticipated AMC series.

Rumors of the spin off have spread like a widefire since early this year but it was first reported by Deadline and reports have suggested the project may have a title; “Cobalt.” A source at AMC says that name is only the working title.

“Cobalt” will revolve around a male divorced teacher and a female guidance counselor. The young actors will play the kids of one of the show’s main characters, a female guidance counselor who is not yet cast. Dillaine is her “former druggie” son and Debnam Carey is her “ambitious” daughter. We’re sure this trio will remain a supportive and intact family unit for many seasons of the show.

The spin-off is co-created by Robert Kirkman and Dave Erickson. It will take during the same zombie apocalypse in the original series, but in a different location and possibly at a different time. Adam Davidson will direct. Speculations about the show suggest that it will take place during the beginning of the Zombie Apocalypse, and give us a view of how people are adapting outside of The Walking Dead’s current Georgia location.

This is the second consecutive pilot in which AMC has cast Debnam Carey; she also was in Galyntine. She made her American movie debut with this summer’s Into The Storm. Filming is slated to begin in 2015.

EDITED!

“A key role has been filled on The Walking Dead companion series. Cliff Curtis (Gang Related, Sunshine) has joined the project in what’s described as a male lead role, EW has confirmed. The actor will play a father who’s trying do to the right thing.”
