Omaha’s music scene can be strange to navigate. While the country music scene dominates in the midwest, Omaha’s musical flavor varies grately. That became apparent at tonight’s God Module show. This being the industrial band’s first stop in Omaha, fans were eager to cut loose on a Thursday night. Fans of the industrial scene, no matter which city you’re in, are one of the most accomidating and friendly that you’ll find. Tonight’s show in Omaha was no different. Jayson, God Module’s founder and vocalist, opened himself musically to the fans and was accepted with open arms. It’s been a very long time we’ve had an authentic industrial show in Omaha and fans of the genre were close to starving for the electronic heavy music. The bursting strobe lights, Jayson’s microphone stand sprouting from a zombie’s torso and the zombie’s who stood guard on the side of the stage all heightened the sense of urgency and aggression that God Module’s music provided.
The Hidout is a very intimate venue, holding a maximum of 250 fans before selling out, and those attending this evening’s show were treated with a brand of music that is meant to been seen and heard in a live capactiy. The ultra heavy beats were coupled perfectly with the massive light show. Jayson, wearing a Disney Maleficent t-shirt and tattered arm warmers, commanded the crowd’s attention and easily subdued the thriving masses into submission.
My personal highlight of the evening was Jayson donning a Leatherface mask and performing a few songs. At one point Jayson kneeled down on the stage and cradled the rotting zombie torso in his arms like a long lost lover. Consisting of only two touring members, God Module put on a show worthy of any arena venue. These are the types of shows that Omaha needs more of.
