TEN, the new album from Break of Reality, is out today. It is available at physical and digital retailers everywhere, including iTunes (http://bit.ly/1liqJUW). On Wednesday, March 26, Fuse News will take viewers behind the scenes at Break of Reality’s sold-out two-night stand at SubCulture in New York City, which kicked off with a record release party on March 14. The segment will air at 7:30/6:30C tomorrow.

On April 19, the band will hit the road, playing club dates and festivals  – and launching a Kickstarter.com-funded program that will bring Break of Reality to 10 U.S. school districts. See below for itinerary.

“Break of Reality puts the classical in classic rock, with its heavy, exotic original compositions and instrumental arrangements of hard-rock standards,” said Time Out New York, adding:  “If you’re one of the many commuters who’s seen this group in the Times Square subway station, you already know its secret weapon: It plays with genuine technique and solid intonation, but rocks out like it means it.” “Songs go from 0 to 60 in a split second, turning on a dime to take you from a quiet chamber recital to a thundering arena rock concert: Fans of both Nine Inch Nails and Kronos Quartet will be pleased,”observed New York Press.

TEN is Break of Reality’s third collection of original songs and follows 2006’s The Sound Between EP (2006) and Spectrum of the Sky (2009). 2012’s Covers highlighted the band’s arrangements of tunes by J. S. Bach, Metallica, Nine Inch Nails and System of a Down. The quartet has more than 20 million plays a year on Pandora Radio and a video of Break of Reality performing the theme of the hit HBO series “Game of Thrones” prompted The Huffington Post to marvel, “This electrifying rendition…blows any other version of the GoT tune clear out of the water.” The clip, which has more than 2.5 million views, can be seen HERE.

In the weeks leading up to the album’s release, Yahoo! Music and the HuffingtonPost.com premiered tracks from TEN, which features 10 original compositions written by Patrick Laird (cello) and Ivan Trevino (drums/percussion), who founded the band in 2004 when they were students at Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY, Cellists Laura Metcalf and Adrian Daurov, current members of the band, contributed to the recording, as did cellists Brook Speltz and Meta Weiss. Marnie Laird played piano on several tracks.

“Helix” opens with a pulsating wave of cellos before Trevino enters to add his complex prog-rock drumming. Repeating clusters of lower register notes on the cellos supply the simple, ominous bass line that propels Laird’s melody. The evocative first single “Star,” which features Marnie Laird on piano, is uplifting and anthemic while Trevino’s djembe adds a percussive edge to “Storm’s End,” a slow sinister groove full of swooping, clashing cello lines. The tune closes quietly with the cellos playing pizzicato figures that suggest flamenco guitars.

“We’re really excited to be playing the songs on TEN for the first time live and are also looking forward to working with kids in the schools again,” says Trevino. “We show them they can play any kind of music, not just classical, and encourage them to think outside of the box. Teachers often email us saying how their students are practicing more and starting their own bands and music groups.”

The school program offers students free educational workshops by day and a chance to join Break of Reality onstage that night. While the evening school performances are free to the public, a donation is suggested. 100% of these proceeds will benefit the schools’ music programs.
