Now this is how you do a Christmas card.
Kelly Clarkson unveiled her first holiday card since marrying Brandon Blackstock in October and becoming a stepmom to his kids, Savannah, 12, and Seth, 6, and it’s equal parts festive and funny.
The pregnant crooner and her family, who are all wearing Christmas-themed pajamas, are tied up together — with their two dogs — in a big red ribbon and lights in front of their decorated fireplace. And the foursome is giving side eye to Santa Claus, who’s chillaxing in chair next to them, sipping a drink and enjoying some holiday cookies.
“Merry Christmas from the Blackstocks!” wrote the singer, who, despite severe morning sickness, is very busy this holiday season with a Christmas album, “Wrapped in Red,” and a star-studded TV special called “Kelly Clarkson’s Cautionary Christmas Music Tale.” (The special airs tonight and features performances from her stepmom-in-law, Reba McEntire, and Trisha Yearwood as well as cameos from everyone from Jay Leno to Matt Lauer.)
Kelly’s Christmas card is very obviously a, well, Christmas card unlike what the Kardashians put out last week and we described as “reminiscent of a ransacked carnival, packed with everything from a hot pink staircase covered in graffiti to a burned-out dollar sign to disassembled gold mannequins to broken games featuring the family members’ faces to what appears to be a few abandoned movie theater seats (the kind you would never, ever want to sit in).” No tinsel, candy canes, or stockings in sight!
On Tuesday’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” we watched Tom Hanks get into the holiday spirit creating a fun Christmas card for a fan. The “Saving Mr. Banks” slipped into a Santa suit, summoned his elf friend (Wiz Khalifa), and posed with a woman from Virginia. The people on her Christmas card list are sure to be surprised, well, if they didn’t catch her on TV.
Another fun card making the rounds is Mena Suvari‘s. The “Chicago Fire” actress and boyfriend Sal Sanchez put on ugly Christmas sweaters with toy soldiers and posed with their cat while another image of a giant cat was superimposed on the top — something Miley Cyrus would approve of. Like Kelly’s it’s silly, fun, and doesn’t take itself too seriously. And that’s a message we can get behind this holiday season.
