It was the largest event ever hosted at SkateDaze, but what happened Sunday night at the decades-old skating rink wasn’t the memory people paid for.
Hundreds of parents shelled out $45 per ticket to watch an eight-minute show performed by only three of the four members of the band Mindless Behavior. The show was interrupted multiple times by power failures.

“I got pushed and I was crying,” said Alaya Stricklin, a Mindless Behavior fan.
“I downloaded all their songs on my phone and I was telling everyone at school that I couldn’t wait,” Kalea Blair said. “I was telling everyone at school I was going to the Mindless Behavior concert.” “The music kept cutting out,” said Venus Watson, a parent. “Kids were pushing and fighting.”
“If I would’ve bought a ticket to the event, I think I would’ve been upset too,” said Scott Cernik of SkateDaze.
SkateDaze owners said they had nothing to do with the event.
“We were just the venue,” Cernik said. “It’s not our event. We run our business in a very professional way. We’ve been around for decades.”
Mark Williams, the promoter and organizer of the show, said the event was not a concert, but specifically a meet-and-greet event for fans. He said the band was supposed to perform eight songs and could not because of power failures.
Williams said the band fulfilled its contractual obligation.
Parents and their kids said they were upset about the experience.
“I thought it was going to be fun,” Stricklin said. “It was not fun.”
As of Monday night, there was no indication that families would get their money back.
