“Mark E. Smith jammed with a Mellow Gold thump, a wild ’60s freak-out, and a muzak outro . . It’s an impressive bit of music that hints at the band’s scrappy inhibition, and its allure all but comes from how unserious Dub Thompson take themselves.” – Pitchfork on first single “Dograces”
“The 6 Best New Songs We Heard This Week” – Flavorwire about “Dograces”
“a jerky, almost tribal track that maintains a heavy, druggy groove throughout-or at least until the track disintegrates into a noisy wildout, eventually transforming into a dark and bizarre amusement park ditty.” – Chicago Reader on “Dograces”
Last month, Dub Thompson, the brazen project of 19-year olds Matt Pulos (guitar) and Evan Laffer (drums), announced their debut album, 9 Songs, by sharing the raw and immediate Robert Beatty-directed video for “Dograces.” Originally from Agoura Hills, now based in California (Matt) and Brooklyn (Evan), Dub Thompson are giving a further glimpse into the Jonathan Rado-produced 9 Songs with another one of the album’s 8 songs — the more playful “No Time.” Together, the vibes of these two tracks hint at the album’s mischievous nature. The youthful energy, clever aesthetics and mature musical and artistic influences driving this band make 9 Songs an undeniably riveting listen.
