‘Field of Dreams’ cast to celebrate 25th anniversary of film in Iowa

DYERSVILLE | Some of the cast from the 1989 film “Field of Dreams” will return to the iconic patch of farmland where ghostly baseball players emerged from Iowa cornfields.

Actor Dwier Brown, who portrayed the father of character Ray Kinsella played by Kevin Costner, leaked the news on his Facebook page that some of the cast will visit Dyersville for the film’s 25th anniversary.

Brown’s character asks Kinsella the famous question that became a kind of Iowan brand: “Is this heaven?” to which Costner’s character replies, “It’s Iowa.”

Denise Stillman, president and CEO of Go the Distance LLC, which purchased the movie site in 2012, confirmed her “loose-lipped” friend’s post on Tuesday.

“He’s looking forward to reuniting with the cast,” Stillman said, though she wouldn’t say who Iowa should expect to show for the “big party.”

That news breaks April 21 during a press conference in Chicago. Tentatively, the celebration is planned for June 13-14.

“We’re doing it really to give thanks and honor what the movie has meant for the thousands coming back to a tiny ball field in the middle of an Iowa cornfield,” Stillman said. “It’s going to be a once-in-a-lifetime event.”

Stillman’s company established a group of “ghost players,” former extras in the film who return in full White Sox gear to play ball with tourists.
