Huffington Post Premieres Jon Langford’s 3rd Single and Video for “Weightless”
New Album Here Be Monsters Out April 1st via In De Goot Recordings
Free EP Available Now on Noisetrade, Exclusive 7″ Days & Nights Available on Record Store Day 4/19
On April 1st, Jon Langford will release his new album Here Be Monsters with his band Skull Orchard via In De Goot Recordings.  The acclaimed musician and visual artist will include individual artwork images specific to each track on the album, marking this release as the most complete unification of his dual creative careers.  Best known for his work in The Mekons and the Waco Brothers, Langford has been a leading pioneer in the assimilation of folk/country music into punk rock since the genre’s first evolution over 30 years ago.
Yesterday, Huffington Post premiered the track and video for the 3rd album single “Weightless,” which you can check out HERE.
“The song is about transparency and mystery – Bradley Manning and Herman Melville – and was written way before all the Edward Snowden stuff but it seems to be more about his situation right now,” said Langford.  “In fact I now firmly believe I have weird futuristic mental powers & telepathic intuitions…cross my palm with silver!”
Here Be Monsters sees the Welsh-born, Chicago-based singer/songwriter, bandleader, producer, painter, and poet plotting a clear-eyed, sharp-elbowed course through such far-flung subjects as alternative hierarchies and astronomy, perpetual war for perpetual profit, the culture of detachment, middle age, fatherhood, fame, and the fleetingness of love.  “When they didn’t know quite what was there, they put “Here Be Monsters,” says Langford.  “When I think of where my career has gone over the last 35 years, it’s usually in that area – off the map.”
Langford’s second single and video for “Drone Operator” was recently featured exclusively on USA Today and is now available as an instant grat track for fans who pre-order Here Be Monsters on iTunes. In a recent interview with VICE Magazine, Jon discussed everything from his work with The Mekons to drone warfare, alternative astronomy, and honky-tonk with writer Matthew Caron.  Read the exclusive interview HERE.
For the upcoming seventh annual Record Store Day on April 19, the incredibly prolific songwriter will release an exclusive 7″ titled Days & Nights which will feature two brand new studio tracks, the title track “Days & Nights” along with B-Side “Here’s What We Have.”  Langford also recently released a FREE EP via Noisetrade that includes demo tracks from both releases and the studio version of the first single from Here Be Monsters, “Mars,” which was premiered via The A.V. Club.
In celebration of the new releases, Langford has extended his US tour well into April and May. The new tour dates include a trip on the unique Roots on the Rails traveling folk festival, which is a three day journey between Chicago, IL and Portland, OR and will feature musicians Dave Alvin, Rick Shea, David Olney, and Eilen Jewell.
