Andy Shauf, Dawn Landes,
The Fleshtones, Jon Langford,
Leif Vollebekk, and Saint Rich
Greetings!
With less than a week to go before we head down to Austin, we wanted to reach out and send you the schedules of some of the fantastic acts we have down at SXSW this year.
Please take a look and find more details about each artist below. We look forward to seeing you!
Andy Shauf has recently emerged as one of Canada’s most respected singer-songwriter voices and has been compared to the likes of Nick Drake and Elliott Smith by outlets such as The A.V. Club and NME. You can listen to his latest album The Bearer of Bad News via Bandcamp.
“America’s Garage Rock Band” The Fleshtones have recently released a brand new album, Wheel of Talent, on Yep Roc Records. Rolling Stone premiered the track “Hipster Heaven” and said “iconic garage rockers the Fleshtones remain as energetic as ever” and called the band a “New York rock & roll institution.” SPIN premiered the full album and said “the Fleshtones stay true to their signature style on Wheel of Talent: a fusion of roots-rock with copious amounts of fuzz.”
Jon Langford and Skull Orchard are set to release a new album, Here Be Monsters, on April 1st via In De Goot. Best known for his work in the The Mekons and the Waco Brothers, Langford has been a leading pioneer in the assimilation of folk/country music into punk rock since the genre’s first evolution over 30 years ago.The Onion’s A.V. Club premiered the track and video for the albums first single “Mars,” and said that it “aptly demonstrates Langford’s gradual and logical shift from young punk to country punk.”
Leif Vollebekk recently released his US debut North Americana via our label, Missing Piece Records. Ann Powers of NPR Music included the album on her “Under-The-Radar Albums Preview for 2014 List” and said “If you couldn’t get enough of the intimate folk music recreated within the Coen Brothers’ Inside Llewyn Davis, try a contemporary soul kissed-spin on the sound from this Montreal-based bard.” You can stream the full album via The Onion’s A.V. Club.
Saint Rich is the new project from Christian Peslak and Steve Marion of Delicate Steve. They released their debut full length Beyond The Drone via Merge Records earlier this year and are currently on the road with Dr. Dog. SPIN called the album “undeniable” and said Saint Rich deliver “12 sweetly shaggy tracks of wistful guitar-rock, shaped in the suburbs but colored by the country.” Stereogum premiered the video for the album’s “sprawling pseudo-country anthem” (Paste) “Officer”.
Brooklyn folk singer-songwriter Dawn Landes just released her new album Bluebird via Western Vinyl. The album features contributions from Tony Scherr, Rob Moose, and Norah Jones. SPIN said “Musically she exists somewhere between Feist and Townes Van Zandt, and her New York-by-way-of-Kentucky pluck is a refreshing antidote to schmaltzy neo-folk.” Watch the video for the album’s title track via
