Kidneythieves #AMA On Twitter/Kickstarter For The Mend

My first introduction to Kidneythieves was in 2002 when the band opened for KMFDM’s Sturm & Drang tour. At that time, KT had released 2 full length albums, a few singles and a remix EP of tracks from their Zer0Space album. As much as I enjoyed KMFDM’s set, it was Kidneythieves that surprised me the most. I had no expectations for this band before seeing them, but they grew to become one of my all time favorites. The music that vocalist Free Dominguez and musician Bruce Somers created spoke to me on a higher level.
Having gotten the chance to see them live 5 times during the summer of 2002, and make some amazing friends (calling you out Michelle!) who shared my passion for their music, my heart broke when they disbanded in 2004 after re-releasing their debut album with bonus material, and a live CD recorded during their Chicago stops on the 2002 Sturm & Drang tour.
In 2010 the band re-emerged with a new full length album, Trypt0fantic, followed by an EP, The Invisible Plan, in 2011 that continued the story of their 2010 release. When not working together on Kidneythieves material, the two have worked with the likes of John5, Filter, Zeromancer, Good Charlotte, KMFDM, and Conjure One.
In late 2015, the band announced their next release, The Mend. To support the release, the band started a Kickstarter that would allow fans the opportunity to fully back the release of the album, and give the fans a chance at some rare and hard to find memorabilia. It didn’t take long for the band to reach their goal of $45k. But it doesn’t stop there. Kidneythieves haven’t toured nationally for over a decade, and the band is itching to get back on the road. The more people who back their Kickstarter campaign, the more promoters will take notice and are more likely to book the band on a national tour.

In the wake of reaching their Kickstarter goal just weeks after starting it for the 2016 release of their album The Mend, Kidneythieves founder and vocalist Free Dominguez took to Twitter New Years Day evening for an Ask Me Anything session with their followers. Normally I don’t join in on the fun, but I did have a few questions I wanted answered. Dominguez graciously replied to bother of my #AMA’s.

Adam: Would Kidneythieves consider recording another cover? If so, which song?
Free: Covers usually are a spur of the moment thing, or work for hire. With our limited time, our own originals come first!

Adam: Any music you initially wrote for your solo albums but fit better with you & Bruce’s music?
Free: I’m pretty clear of diff between my material and Kidneythieves. “Tears on a Page” originally mine, thought better fit for TRYPT0FANATIC.
