Announced via Netflix’ Instagram account on April 21st, just 11 days after the show’s highly anticipated debut, Daredevil has officially been picked up for a 2nd season. Charlie Cox stars as Matt Murdock / Daredevil, a lawyer-by-day who fights crime at night. The series chronicles the character’s early days fighting crime, juxtaposed with the rise of crime lord Wilson Fisk, played by Vincent D’Onofrio. Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson, Toby Leonard Moore, Vondie Curtis-Hall, Bob Gunton, Ayelet Zurer, and Rosario Dawson also star. The series was released to critical acclaim, with critics praising the action sequences, performances, and the darker tone compared to other properties set in the Marvel Comics Universe.
“Marvel’s Daredevil” is a live action series that follows the journey of attorney Matt Murdock, who in a tragic accident was blinded as a boy but imbued with extraordinary senses. Murdock sets up practice in his old neighborhood of Hell’s Kitchen, New York where he now fights against injustice as a respected lawyer by day and masked vigilante at night.
While season 1 show runner Steven DeKnight will not be returning, season 2 will be left in capable hands. “While previous commitments unfortunately prevent me from continuing on with Daredevil into its second season,” DeKnight said, “I could not be happier that Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez are carrying the torch. They were invaluable collaborators during our first season, and I for one can’t wait to see what they do with the show moving forward.”
Up next for Netflix’ original shows based on Marvel Comics’ characters’ will be A.K.A. Jessica Jones in 2015, followed by Luke Cage, Iron Fist and The Defenders mini-series in 2016.
Daredevil’s 13 episode first season is streaming currently, and I highly recommend that you binge it!
