March 6, 2014… New York City… For immediate release… Lalah Hathaway & Ruben Studdard’s ‘The Meant To Be’ Tour has added seven new dates including stops in Austin, Houston, Memphis, Chattanooga, Washington DC, New York and New Haven. Based on the enthusiastic response to the initial tour dates, there was clearly a demand for additional shows for these two incredible vocalists. A current itinerary follows this release.
Studdard’s new Verve Records CD Unconditional Love recently debuted at No. 7 on Billboard’s R&B Chart and he has recently appeared on NBC’s Today Show, Live! With Kelly & Michael and The Biggest Loser. Other upcoming TV appearances in the next two months for “The Velvet Teddybear” include The Steve Harvey Show, Dr. Phil and Arsenio Hall. Born to R&B/Soul music royalty Lalah Hathaway, the daughter of the late legendary Donny Hathaway, won a Grammy this year for best R&B performance along with Snarky Puppy for the song ”Something”. Hathaway’s unique ability to sing a chord (three notes simultaneously) was incorporated into the performance of “Something” which quickly went viral with over two million social media viewers internationally. A trained pianist and vocalist, Hathaway is a graduate of the Berklee School of Music and has released six critically acclaimed albums in the course of her two decade career, appeared on scores of soundtrack albums and is also a singer-songwriter and producer.
“Studdard is finally hitting his stride, exuding grace, confidence and class with his new record,” raved the Birmingham News about Studdard’s new cd. “A Luther-like touch” commented People Magazine. Studdard’s Unconditional Love includes such standards as The Carpenters’ “Close To You”, Neil Diamond’s “Hello Again” and Paul McCartney’s “My Love” as well as a duet with Hathaway of the classic hit “If This World Were Mine”. “Their version is smooth, silky and soulful” stated Soul 11musicblog.
